This is a posting of some of the most common questions I receive. If you
have a question you would like answered feel free to email me!

Question: I want my kids to be able to use the Internet, but I hear so many
scary things, is there anything I can do to help keep them safe?
Answer: The net is a wonderful resource, but there are dangers lurking there.
Take a peek at our Internet Safety page for some
more ideas.

Question: I keep hearing people talk about spyware/spam etc but I don't
really know what they mean or am looking for more information about it.
Answer: Visit our page on this topic for more
information. There are some great free programs that can help you!

Question: I saved a file, but I don't know where it went. Is it
gone? How do I find it again?
Answer: It is probably still there! Use the Find or
Search feature in windows to look for the file name. If you don't know
the name-look for any file saved on that date.

Question: My computer is starting to run slower and slower. Is there
anything I can do to speed it up?
Answer: Often there is!
- Make sure that your Anti Virus Program
has the latest virus definitions, and do a complete scan.
- Make sure that any spyware has been
removed from your computer. You can check your computer and remove
these spyware programs by downloading and running a free program called
Ad-Aware. Another free program
that I recommend to check for and remove spyware is called
Spy-Bot
- Delete any programs that you no longer
use.
- Empty your Internet browser cache.
- Search for temporary files by using the Find or Search
feature to look for all files named
*.tmp These are temporary files and may
be safely deleted.
- Empty your recycle bin by Right clicking it and choosing Empty.
Note: You may skip steps 4,5 and 6 by running Disk Cleanup instead
(Look under Start>Programs>Accessories>System Tools for this program)
- Run ScanDisk
- Run Disk Defragmenter-Follow the instructions for
ScanDisk but choose Disk Defragmenter on the Tools tab instead.
- Disable items in the automatic startup that you do not need started
automatically. For Windows 98/Windows ME/Windows XP
Click START | RUN
Type msconfig and hit ENTER
Click the STARTUP tab
Locate the item you wish to remove and uncheck the box next to the item name.
(If you don't know what the item is -there is a good list at
http://www.sysinfo.org/startupinfo.html)
Click APPLY and then OK.
Click YES when prompted to reboot your system.
You will get a "warning" that you are using the System Configuration
Utility- check the box that says not to remind you again and click the OK
button.
Note: If a program does not run as expected- repeat this process
and recheck the box next to the item name so that it will start automatically
again.
